STUTTGART, CIRCA 1820, PROBABLY AFTER A DESIGN BY NIKOLAUS FRIEDRICH VON THOURET

The shaped moulded back, centered by a foliage and anthemia cresting, the padded back, arms and seat covered à châssis in fleur-de-lys decorated vieux rose silk. The seatrail centered by a floral rosette, with similar decoration to the sides, on leaf-wrapped circular legs, stencilled '11631' on back and with remains of a blue-bordered paper label. Exhibited on loan as part of the large state exhibition 2013 "In the Splendour of the Tsars" (Im Glanz der Zaren) at the Landesmuseum Württemberg
Almost certainly delivered circa 1820 for the refurbished apartments of William I of Württemberg at the Stadtschloss Stuttgart and thence by descent. According to catalogue entry of Christie’s, recorded
in the Stadtschloss on 6 October 1891.
